LOCAL AREA PLANNING
After a lengthy process, local area planning has officially started for the Tagish area. The Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources and C/TFN have appointed their representatives to a planning committee which held its introductory meeting on July 17, 2014 at the Tagish Community Centre. The members for C/TFN are Patrick James, Bill Barrett Sr. and Adam Winters. The members from the Government of Yukon are Martin Allen, Vicki Hancock and Paul Dabbs, all Tagish residents. Supporting the Committee are Tomoko Hagio from Energy, Mines and Resources and Doris Dreyer from C/TFN.
Urban Systems of Whitehorse has recently been selected as the consultant to manage the planning process and preliminary work has now been started. It is expected that the first public meeting will be scheduled at the end of May 2015.
The Tagish Advisory Council is not a direct party to the process but the outcome is obviously of great interest to us. We are charged with providing advice to the Minister of Community Affairs on matters of concern to Tagish and its residents. We seek feedback from Tagish residents on an ongoing basis but as you can appreciate, this is often incomplete. A local area plan will give us a sense of how residents view their community and how they see it in the years to come. Within this context, it will allow us to better focus our advice to shape the community in accordance with the vision of its residents. Consequently, we would encourage all residents to take an interest in the process and participate as you can. This website will be used to provide ongoing information as we progress and . will be the official website of the planning process. We look forward to your input.
