The TCA: Who We Are
The Tagish Community Association is a non-profit organization created pursuant to the Society's Act, whose purpose is to carry out its mandate as a local recreational authority.
We are strongly volunteer-driven, and rely heavily on a wide base of community members to help-out and 'make things happen!' With such a strong Tagish spirit present at events and activities carried out at the Recreation Hall, we have been truly fortunate and are enabled to continue putting on fun, recreational get-togethers for everyone to enjoy.
The TCA receives core funding and administrative and expert support from the Sports and Recreation Branch of the Department of Community Services. The bulk of its funding comes from its ongoing fund raising efforts and other funding sources, such as Canadian Heritage, Lotteries Yukon, Youth Directorate, Recreation and Parks Association of Yukon and the Elder Active Association.
The role of the TCA is a very broad one, and the range of activities we host are quite varied. We offer ongoing sports, social, health and educational programs for all age groups, music and special events, and facilitate programs and bookings for other organizations.
The Association has a large indoor recreation facility, an outdoor skating rink, a children's playground, a ball field and a horseshoe pitch. The main facility has a large kitchen and we are able to host community events and dinners. The Hall is also available for meetings, workshops, weddings etc. The complex also house our community library, a thrift store and our Canada Post office. Currently the Southern Lakes Renewable Resources Council maintains its office in our building.
The management of the TCA is the responsibility of a Board of Directors elected annually and the Board in turn hires a Recreational Director to manage the day to day activities.
